Lost, Stolen or Damaged SST Card: How to Replace It

Lost, stolen or damaged SST card? Here is who issues it, what to check first, and how Predictive Safety replaces a card from any school.

Léelo en español →

A cracked plastic ID card lying next to an empty wallet on a plywood workbench, in a flat illustration style with no text.

If your SST card is lost, stolen or damaged, you can get a replacement, and it doesn’t have to come from the school that issued the original. Predictive Safety replaces an SST card from any school. You upload a photo and we handle the rest.

That’s the short version. The rest of this post is here so you don’t burn a week knocking on the wrong door.

Lost, stolen or damaged: the fix is the same

Lost means it’s somewhere between the last site and the couch cushions. Stolen means it left with your wallet. Damaged means cracked, faded past reading, or washed with your jeans.

Whether it’s your SST Worker card or another SST card, all three end the same way: you need a new physical card with your name on it. If your school recorded your training, that training is still on record. What you’re missing is the card.

If the card is cracked but still readable, replace it before it isn’t. A card nobody can read is the same as no card when someone asks to see it.

If your wallet got stolen, deal with the bank cards and your driver license first. The SST card is third on the list, but it is on the list.

Who issues your SST card

Under NYC DOB’s training rule, 1 RCNY 105-03, the SST card is issued by the training provider through Training Connect.

NYC DOB does not print or mail SST cards. Predictive Safety prints its cards itself and ships them.

Source: NYC DOB, Site Safety Training (1 RCNY 105-03).

That makes a school the right place to ask for a copy, not NYC DOB. It also means the school has to be real. Cards come from NYC DOB-registered providers, and a card from anyone else is a laminated rumor.

Check the issue date before you order

An SST card expires 5 years from the date it was issued. Find the issue date on the card, on a photo of it, on an old receipt or in any email from the school.

If that date is more than 5 years back, the card has expired. That’s a renewal conversation, not a replacement one.

What to have in hand

A few things make the order easier:

  • Your full name as it appears on the card.
  • The school that issued it, if you remember. If you don’t, that’s fine, because replacement works for any school.
  • The issue date, or a photo of the old card if you have one.

If it was stolen, say so

A stolen card has your name on it and now it’s in someone else’s pocket. Replace it the same way, and tell your employer it was stolen so nobody is surprised later.

When a replacement needs extra training

After checkout, you don’t pay Predictive Safety anything else. The one exception is extra training that NYC DOB requires, which can happen when a prior school never recorded your classes or your card lapsed too long.

That’s a records problem, not a card problem. Better to hear it now than from a site safety manager at the gate.

How replacement works at Predictive Safety

Replacement covers an SST card from any school, so you don’t have to hunt down the school that issued your first one. You upload a photo. Predictive Safety handles the rest.

Replacing a card is not the same as retaking a course. If your training is on record, you’re ordering a card, not signing up for class again.

Every card Predictive Safety sends ships with a tracking number, so you’re not standing at the mailbox guessing.

Predictive Safety is an NYC DOB-registered SST course provider (NYC DOB Course Provider #CP059) at 5400 Fieldston Rd in the Bronx, and it is IACET accredited. That’s who is printing your card.

Keep the next one from disappearing

Take a photo of the card the day it shows up, front and back, and keep it in an album on your phone. When the card goes missing, you still have your name and the issue date.

Then stop carrying it in your back pocket. The back pocket has killed more cards than any inspector.

And tell someone. If the card goes missing at work, tell your foreman or site safety manager that day. Starting that conversation yourself beats having it started for you.

Next step

Replacement works for an SST card from any school. Start at all SST courses, upload a photo, and we handle the rest.
