Which workers on my site need an SST card?
Under Local Law 196 of 2017, every worker and supervisor on a permitted NYC construction site that requires a site safety plan (a Site Safety Manager, Site Safety Coordinator or Construction Superintendent) must carry an SST card issued through NYC DOB. Workers need a 40-hour card; supervisors need a 62-hour card.
What does a worker need before the 10-hour SST course?
An OSHA 30 card earned in the last five years (the 40-Hour Site Safety Manager course also counts). OSHA 10 alone is not enough for a worker card: that worker takes the 40 Hour Package, which bundles OSHA 30 with the 10-Hour SST course.

What if a worker already has a card?
The free crew card check tells you. A valid card needs nothing until the last 365 days before it expires, when an 8-hour (worker) or 16-hour (supervisor) renewal course keeps it alive.
